Pub­lic Health Min­is­ter Ms. Schip­pers answered ques­tions from MP Pia Dijk­stra (D66) about PrEP in a most unsat­is­fac­to­ry man­ner. Par­tic­u­lar­ly the state­ment that she wouldn’t make an assess­ment of the safe­ty and effec­tive­ness of Tru­va­da “since this med­i­cine has yet to be approved by the Euro­pean Med­i­cine Author­i­ty” does not go well with many with­in the LGTB com­mu­ni­ty.

The minister’s state­ment shows a huge lack of ambi­tion, and giv­en the over­whelm­ing amount of sci­en­tif­ic evi­dence it may well be called bizarre and out­dat­ed.
